Igor Štiks was born in 1977 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hercegovina. His fiction, literary criticism, and essays have appeared widely in journals and reviews of the former Yugoslavia. His story “At the Sarajevo Market” was included in Best European Fiction 2010, published by Dalkey Archive Press. He is the editor of anthologies of new Croatian prose fiction and international short fiction in English.
His novel Dvorac u Romagni [A Castle in Romagna] (2000) received the award for best first novel in Croatia. To date it has been translated into German, Spanish, French, and English. Other works by him have appeared in English, Greek, Turkish, Macedonian, and Slovene. He received his doctorate from the Institut d-Eudes Politiques de Paris – Sciences Po. His second novel, The Judgment of Richard Richter (Elijahova stolica, 2006, Fraktura), won the prestigious Ksaver Sandor Gjalski prize in 2006, and has been translated into ten languages to date.
