Alyson Waters received a PhD in Comparative Literature in 1994 from the City University of New York and has translated works by Vassilis Alexakis, Louis Aragon, René Belletto, Emmanuel Bove, Albert Cossery, and Yasmina Khadra, among others. Her translation of the novel Préhistoire, by Eric Chevillard, published by Archipelago Books in June 2012, won the Florence Gould/French-American Foundation Translation Prize.
Alyson has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowship, a PEN Translation Fund Grant, and two residency grants from the Centre national du livre. In June 2011, Alyson spent three glorious weeks as a translator in residence at the Banff International Literary Translation Centre and now sits on the BILTC advisory committee. She was named a “chevalier dans l’ordre des arts et des lettres” by the French Ministry of Culture for her work as a translator.
