Astushi Nakajima(1909-1942) is a Japanese author known for his meticulously researched short stories based on Ancient China. Nakajima is something of a cult classic in Japan, where the genre of stories based on Ancient China is as well developed as tales based on Ancient Greece and Rome are in English speaking countries. In exquisite translations by Paul McCarthy and Nobuko Ochner, The Moon Over the Mountain is the first collection of Nakajima’s meticulous, poetic stories to be published in English.
