Sabit Madaliev

Sabit Madaliev is the author of fourteen books of poetry and fiction, published in the USSR and his native Uzbekistan. His most recent collections employ the Sufi verse form of rubaiyat, which has Persian, Turkish, and Arabic roots. Yet by writing his works in Russian, he taps into the rich tradition of Russian-language poetry and prose as well, making his  creations complex and intriguing hybrids that exist, like the author, somewhere on the border between medieval Tashkent and twenty-first-century Moscow.

The Silence of the Sufi is his first full-length prose work and the first of his books to be published in English. Madaliev lives in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
